Summary: In the shadows you will find lust and passion, battles for power and for blood, and death and fear around every corner. In the shadows you are carried away to an unknown future. Your destiny awaits, and you are no longer who you thought you were. You have a thirst, for blood perhaps, but a thirst for very much more than that.

Giselle was a normal girl with an attitude common to most girls of her age. Her family might not have been perfect (whose is?) but she loved them, and her future looked bright. She had an awesome best friend and a steady boyfriend, but how could she possibly have been so wrong about someone she loved? And how could she have been prepared for the darkness and for what she was to become?

Cover: A little too dark and gothic, but I like it.

Thoughts: I wasn't sure what to expect when I first started reading In the Shadows, but I was caught in the story after the first few pages and I wanted to learn more. Giselle is your normal, everyday teenager. She has a family she loves, a best friend forever, a boyfriend she adores and will soon be graduating and going to college. Her world is turned upside down though when he boyfriend breaks up with her, her best friend betrays her, and she is thrown into a world of evil where she doesn't know who she can trust and who she can.

As vampires, shadows and other dark things begin to fill her world, she must learn to fight back in order to survive. I definitely liked Giselle, she was so brave. With everyone she knew turning out to be evil, and others not, it was hard to know who to trust. Giselle was strong and able to deal with all the things that were being thrown at her. In the Shadows is quite an adventure, with plenty of twists and turns, and Giselle is a great main character, scared but definitely determined and willing to fight to survive.

I really don't want to give away too much of the plot, because every detail is important to the story and it sort of unfolds like a mystery with bad guys you never expected and scenes that might confuse you, but will later be explained. The author was able to add a lot of details, but keep the story smooth and the plot interesting, so I was really into the story and couldn't put it down. In the Shadows is a great start to a series and I can't wait to read what happens next in the second book.

I definitely recommend this to others who still love vampires, are looking for something a bit different and like YA. This one is definitely different, with parts that will make you laugh, gasp and have you sitting at the edge of your seat. I am sure many will enjoy this one!
