Summary: Cara has never been one of those girls: confident, self-possessed, and always ready with the perfect thing to say. A girl at the very top of the popularity tower. One of the Populazzi.
Now, junior year could change everything. Cara’s moving to a new school, and her best friend urges her to seize the moment—with the help of the Ladder. Its rungs are relationships, and if Cara transforms into the perfect girlfriend for guys ever-higher on the tower, she’ll reach the ultimate goal: Supreme Populazzi.
The Ladder seems like a lighthearted social experiment, a straight climb up, but it quickly becomes gnarled and twisted. And when everything goes wrong, only the most audacious act Cara can think of has a chance of setting things even a little bit right.
Cover: It sort of throws me off a little, not sure how I feel about the face.
Thoughts: Populazzi was a fun read, with awesome and quirky characters, lots of high school drama and many humorous situations that had me laughing out loud. Elise Allen did a great job portraying a teenager and what she goes through in high school when all she thinks she wants is popularity.
Cara was such a great character, and yes, I got plenty frustrated with her and wanted to slap her at times. But I also felt like I connected with her and I loved her friendship with her best friend Claudia, it was adorable. Claudia was a bit pushy though, and although she seemed to force Cara to try and be popular, her intentions were only to help her best friend.
Although the story is a bit predictable, it was captivating nonetheless and definitely funny. I enjoyed the transformation Cara goes through and how we are able to see how she grows after she does everything. I recommend Populazzi to others who are looking for a fun, quick read.
I have a finished copy of Populazzi up for grabs!
